Different Ways You Could Be Ripped Off In Building

SCAM 1

Just when you thought you have heard it all, when you thought you have seen every possible way you could be cheated while you build your house or manage a building project, then comes this. The measurement of a block is supposed to be 225x225mm in height and width, but imagine a situation whereby your block maker is making blocks of only 200mm height? This is pure cheating, do you know the effect of this? You lay a block line of 9 blocks and get the height of 8! You have been scammed of 1 block in 9. Be guided.

SCAM 2

How sound are your cement bags, do you know a sound cement bag when you see one? I can spot a tampered bag a mile away, watch those cement sellers, they may be removing some quantities of cement from the factory measure and sell to you.

SCAM 3

Just as someone had mentioned earlier, buying wood for building construction is another place where you notice widespread cheating going on among sellers and dealers. You walk to a wood dealer and ask for 2x4 wood, which should translate to a wood with 2 inches by 4 inches as the size, and you will be given a wood measuring about 1 and a half inch by 3 inch. If you start screaming "cheats", everyone around will know you are new. This trick is everywhere and starts from the the saw mill machines who adjust their saw cutting settings to get more quantities from a log of wood. Hey! how about the total length of the wood? I bet you its short by some inches grin

Have they sold you cheap soft wood and told you its mahogany? That's the problem, these people will eat you raw when they are sure you don't know the difference.

Builders should be aware of this when buying wood, look for places where you can find complete gauge wood, or be aware of what you are buying so you could compensate for the shortfall in size to prevent future problems in the building.

SCAM 4

So you call in a welder and describe the type and design of gate you want, but the detail is in the type of metals used to build the gate. There are many types of flat sheets, checkered plates, square pipes and rods, plus other different materials for building a gate. Your welder can exploit your limited knowledge if he is sure you don't know the difference. What they do is to promise to use thicker gauge plates and pipes to build your gate, but end up using lighter gauge materials. If they promise you 2.5mm plates, they may use 1.5mm plates in the end. Same for pipes and rods.

In the end the gate ends up lighter and less sturdy than what you planned for, and your welder ends up richer.

11 Habits Of Succeeding Students. Learn Them And Start Succeeding

The definition of success for students varies as there are many faces on every campus. However, we all know a succeeding student when we see one.
Successful students have habits they are developed over time. They don't do things or live their lives like the average student.
Like it is often said, "You can't keep doing the same thing and expect a different result" therefore, if you can't boldly put yourself in the class of succeeding students then it is time to change some of your habits and imbibe habits of students who are succeeding.

Here are 11 of such habits seen in most succeeding students. Learn them, apply them and begin to succeed.

1. They’re Internally Motivated
It is their intrinsic desire to be their best selves and succeed that drives their motivation. They are internally driven—not pushed—toward new adventures, the unfolding journey, and the possible outcomes—they relish challenging themselves, learning, and exploring.

2. They Don’t Waste Time Judging other Students
They objectively observe the successes and mistakes of others and learn from them instead of judging or comparing themselves. They don’t waste their time with judgmental, gossipy people either.

3. They Are Humble
When they goof, they are willing to admit they made a mistake and apologize. They encourage feedback from others and use it to take steps in the right direction.

4. They are always Optimistic
Instead of focusing on what’s not working and bad experiences—which so many of us tend to do—they instead focus on what is working and their successes. If they find themselves overthinking a miscalculation, they automatically flip a switch and think about those things they did do right.

5. They Are True to themselves
They are true to themselves despite what others think—they don’t live their lives solely to please others.

6. They are Determined to Succeed
They face discomfort head on to get the result they want. They push themselves out of their comfort zone and get rid of those annoying internal voices that say, “You can't get the grade you desire becuase this course is difficult”. They trust their abilities and know they will come out on top.

7. They Never Stop Learning
They read a lot and are brilliant observers—they are always watching and searching for new, more efficient, and faster ways to achieve. They understand that in order to be better than the average student, they must always continue to learn.

8. They Know What They Want
They have a clear vision of what they want their lives to look like and who they want to be. Their clarity comes with the wisdom to know what things to harness and what things to avoid.

9. Giving up is not an option for them
They “Never say never” but prefer to say “Anything is possible.” When they stumble over that proverbial bump in the road, they problem solve, come up with a plan, take action, and get past it. They understand that a sure way to lose a battle is to quit—which is not a part of their vocabulary or an option.

10. They Don’t Blame Others for their failures
They never blame lecturers, other students, lack of books, etc. for their failures. They understand that ultimately they alone are in charge of their actions and choices and no other.

11. They Surround Themselves with Motivators
Their friends are those who are trustworthy, positive, and supportive and who bring out the best in them unconditionally. Their friends help them take on the world side by side and, when needed, help them get back on their feet again.

We Accept Responsibility For All Wrongs In Nigeria — PDP

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accepted responsibility ‘for all that has gone wrong and bad in the last 16 years’ in the country.

This is according to a tweet by the verified Twitter handle of the party, @pdpnigeria.

The party which pleaded for the ‘genuine and sincere advice’ from Nigerians on the best way to reform the once-dominant party from its crumbling stature, promised to welcome criticism and make amends.

The party which has ruled the country since the return of democracy in 1999 was defeated by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the last general election.

If that's what you're facing presently, then you're not alone. There are thousands of Nigerian job seekers out there whose CVs end up in hiring managers' trash bins.

But do you know why your CV hasn't won you a single interview invitation? No, it's not bad luck. And it's not because you don't have the "connections". It's most likely because you're making some silly mistakes in your CV, and as a result, you're losing your chances to other applicants who are smart enough to avoid such mistakes.

Now, what are those mistakes that could send your CV into the trash bin of Nigerian hiring managers? Here are the ten commonest ones:

1. Making your CV too long

The ideal length of a CV is two pages at most, although it could be longer for those with a huge work experience. So, if you're a young graduate with zero to few years of experience, for no reason should your CV exceed two pages.

Remember that hiring managers have to go through hundreds to thousands of CVs while screening applicants for a position, and they have limited time to make their selection. So, rather than spend extra time on looking through a lengthy CV, they would simply toss it aside because they favour CVs that show with a single glance all the relevant details they're looking for.

2. Making grammatical and spelling errors

Having grammar and spelling errors on your CV sends a lot of negative signals about you. First, that you didn't attend good schools. Second, that you don't pay attention to detail. Third, that you're careless or negligent. And it could go on and on.

So, to avoid giving a bad account of yourself, take your time to edit out all errors in your CV—grammar, spelling, and even punctuation. To be absolutely sure, ask other people to also help you check it. Keeping your CV free of errors is very important. Do you expect a hiring manager to favour an error-laden CV over one that is error-free?

3. Adding irrelevant details

Only few things annoy hiring managers than seeing irrelevant details on an applicant's CV. So, to boost your chances of being selected for the job, include only information that is relevant to the position and cut out whatever is not.

For example, if you're applying for a Mechanical Engineer position, you don't need to add that you once taught in a primary school for a few months after graduation; that's not relevant to the job. Similarly, nobody is interested in your primary school or the church you attend; so cut out stuffs like that from your CV.

Aside making your CV overly long, irrelevant information tends to mask out the more important details that could have caught the hiring manager's attention.

4. Making empty, vague claims

While it's important to list some accomplishments you've recorded with your skills, you should avoid using vague words that say a lot but actually mean nothing.

For example, don't just write "improved sales". Rather, write "grew revenue by 8% by attracting 16 new clients in 2014". Similarly, rather than writing "attended to customer needs", write "responded promptly to customer inquiries via email and phone, and promptly forwarded complaints to the relevant department".

By being specific, you make your claims more concrete and convincing. And that will boost your chances of getting an interview invitation.

5. Poor formatting

Just like there's what they call "love at first sight", there's also "hatred at first sight". And poor CV formatting is one of those mistakes that cause hiring managers to hate a CV at first sight. And it's a no brainer that nobody wastes his time assessing something that annoys him.

Make your CV appealing to hiring managers by using clean formatting. While there are no CV formatting rules etched in stone, stick with one that clearly separates the sections and places the most important points first. Use bulleted lists and keep your sentences as short as possible.

6. Leaving out your contact details

The best way to shoot yourself in the foot when applying for a job is to submit a CV that either leaves out your contact details or includes outdated contact details, such as an old line you lost and didn't bother retrieving.

With this mistake, you've blocked out every possible way you can be reached by the employer. And you sure won't forgive yourself if you later discover that a multinational company badly wanted to hire you, but couldn't reach you because the phone line on your CV is no longer active.

So, it's more than important to ensure that your CV contains your active phone line and email address.

7. Having unexplained employment gaps

While hiring managers understand that gaps of few years could be sometimes inevitable, they don't condone wide gaps that span four, five, six, or more years. This is

Tough Times Await Wike In Rivers - Amaechi

Rivers State Governor, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, has declared that the governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike, was in for difficult times as there would be no money to run the state.

He stated that Nigeria was lucky that Gen. Muhammad Buhari won the presidential elections, adding that his administration would bring the nation out of its financial doldrums.

Amaechi spoke on Sunday in Port Harcourt at a special thanksgiving service held by the Greater Together Campaign Organisation (GTCO), the campaign outfit of the Rivers All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside.

The service, with the theme: ‘I will bless the Lord,’ according to the organisers, was to “Celebrate God’s faithfulness throughout the electioneering period.”
Amaechi said: “God answered our prayers to save us. He also answered our prayers to save Nigeria. I’m not joking, we have no money anywhere. In Rivers State, no money. I think Nyesom Wike is coming, we are waiting. He will look for money for salary; there is none. Luckily for us, we endured these pains because we had to pay our loans.

“We are enduring the pain because we are paying our loans. Maybe he is lucky because we have paid out a lot of our loans if not all. So, he will have to manage. But when he pays out salary, we will see if any of them can do what we did in this state: whether they can build the schools, the roads, even to get a loan.”

Amaechi also stated that no security operative involved in electoral malpractice in the last elections in the state would go unpunished.

He alleged that a newly promoted Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Amadi, who served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in-charge of Operations in the state, during the general election, plotted to eliminate him.

His words: “I will say to all of you that there is a man called John Amadi, former Deputy Commissioner of Police, who sat down and ran a programme to embarrass the APC and embarrass the incoming federal government; even after Buhari had won the presidency. Now, to embarrass us further, I hear he has been promoted to a Commissioner of Police and transferred out of Port Harcourt. He will come back. John Amadi will come back; you will see. The only way he will not come back is if we don’t form government, but if we form government, he will account for his actions.

“After John Amadi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Khana said it is mutiny to take on the federal government, and sat down and fought APC as if he was a PDP member. I don’t know whether he has been promoted or not, but if he has been promoted, he will also come back. That one does not require a judge. The Inspector General of Police (IG) can promote them as he wants; he can even promote them up Assistant Inspector-General of Police, but they must all account for their actions.

“John Amadi intended to kill me and I will tell you how. On my way to my village to go and vote, I ran into some criminals attacking an APC member and I stopped. I stopped with the intention to rescue the gentle man and arrest those people, as governor. I did not know that they had given instruction to my own security not to obey me.

“So, when I told the policemen to arrest them, they were just standing. On further inquiries, I was told that we were told not to go anywhere they were voting. When I asked the C4I to reinforce security, John Amadi called them back and asked them to leave there. The only thing that saved me and saved the situation was that the Brigade Commander sent in soldiers.

“The soldiers sent the criminals away and the people were speaking my language saying, ‘somebody will die here now’ and who was that somebody, other than me? My SSS men were watching, my policemen were watching and my life was at risk. I am supposed to be the governor of Rivers State; the so-called Chief Security Officer.”

The Rivers governor however recollected what he went through in his quest, first to become the Speaker of the state House of Assembly and, later, the governor and declared that this was another moment of trial for the state.

“The president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, is a man of rule of law. He will not punish anybody without following due process. Let us ask the incoming federal government to punish whoever contravened the law.

“What is happening in Rivers State is not new; this is another time of trial. Rivers people can choose to pray and fast as we did when I was to become the Speaker.

“This is the time to call God because without Him we are going nowhere. I prayed and fasted for 10 months while in Ghana and God answered our prayers.

“This time, though I will join in the fasting and prayer but I am not the governorship candidate. My own is to thank and appreciate God for what I have become; from being a Speaker to governor and now soon a retiree,” he said.

Also speaking, the APC governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, in his testimony, said he and his party faithful went through political violence and turbulence during the electioneering period and thanked God that the casualty was minimal.

According to him, the party and its members, from January, through the March 28 and April 11 elections, were visited with series of persecution, and singled out Eleme, Tai and Okrika local government areas as the places where the casualties were mostly recorded.

Peterside however expressed optimism that the elections tribunal would give judgment in his favour.

Ladies- 6 Reasons Why You May Feel Pain In Your Vagina

Ladies can always relate to a sort of pain they feel after a rough bout of sex. There are however other types of pain women feel in their vaginas that may be an indication of something more serious. The cause of the pain may not be too difficult to find out. There are varying and different amounts of pain women may feel in their vagina and these may have a wide range of causes. This article will highlight 6 of the most common causes of pain in the vagina and what the symptoms are. It will also tell you what to do if you experience such pains.

1. Herpes
Herpes is a form of sexually transmitted infection that causes serious vagina pains. It is estimated that 1 out of 10 people will come down with a herpes infection in their lifetime. Herpes infection is characterised by visible blisters and intense pain in the vagina. If you have any of these symptoms, it is best you visit a hospital as soon as possible where you can be given medications to reduce the outbreak of the blisters and the pain.

2. Yeast Infections
In the real sense, yeast infections don’t give pain but pain comes up in the vagina as a result of dryness and itching which a lot of people will call pain. There is a high probability that every woman would experience a yeast infection in her life time. It is good that you get to see a doctor who would prescribe antifungal medications and creams that would eradicate the symptoms.

3. Vaginal Dryness
This is common in women that have reached menopause but can also be seen in younger women. It occurs in younger women mostly as a result of the use of birth control pills which reduces their estrogen levels. A lot of women have vagina dryness and as such, sex is usually painful and uncomfortable for them. The estrogen hormone acts like a moisturizer and if you’re on a birth control pill that inhibits or lowers it, the moisture and lubrication of your vagina would be affected. If you realise that you get unusually dry during sex, visit your doctor who can place you on water based lubricants, higher estrogen birth control pills or other topical creams.

4. His joystick
The female anatomical structure may get as much blame as the structure of your partners joystick too. You might want to consider if it’s pain from your partners penetration you experience or that of your vagina. Men with larger manlinesses can cause pain during intercourse way up in your vagina. This pain is somewhat hard to differentiate and you may have to consider less painful sexual positions which would be comfortable for the both of you.

5. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis can be attributed to pain in your vagina during penetration or during your menstrual cycle. This occurs when the tissues lining the walls of your uterus begins to grow in other areas or when there is a swelling of any of the female reproductive organs. Women may also experience excessive bleeding during their menstrual flow. This would require an ultrasound pelvic scan and your doctor would probably place you on hormonal therapy and analgesics.

6. eal
The discomfort of vulvodynia occurs mostly during the insertion of a Tampon or during sexual penetration. In certain women, the pains occur without sexual penetration or touching of the vagina area. This condition comes and goes which adds to the mystery behind it. It is mostly treated with topical creams. For some women, pings of pain are spontaneous and unrelated to sex or touching the area in any way.
Well, the fact remains that if the pains you experience are normal, you should be better in a few days except it is extraordinary. If you feel the pain is out of hand, see your doctor as soon as possible.

Police Arrests 21 Men With 122 Condoms In Ibadan For Belonging To Gay Cult

The Nigerian Police have arrested 21 young men under the age of 25 for allegedly belonging to a gay cult.

The men were arrested in Ibadan last week after allegedly being caught at a birthday party with about 122 condoms.

Although the organizer of the event claimed that it was just a birthday party, the policemen accused them of holding an initiation into an ‘evil gay cult’ after the discovery of 122 condoms and the absence of females.

The policemen said that they had received a tip claiming that the occupants of the room were gay.

The police also said that the absence of females corroborated with the claim of their informant that it was indeed a gay cult.

A human rights organisation, The Initiative for Equal Rights (TIER) has since spoken out against the arrest of the young men after receiving a call on May 10, 2015.

“At the point of arrest, the young men were physically assaulted and treated in a manner unbecoming of any legal process: they were photographed in their underwear, made to write statements under duress and locked up in an overcrowded cell,” the spokesman of the organization said.

The police initially refused to grant the young men bail and transfer of the case to the state courts until the intervention of a lawyer from the International Center for Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights (INCRESE).

They were given different bail notices from N5,000 to N10,000. The organiser of the party had to pay N21,000.

In spite of the way they were treated, the arrested young men refused to appeal against the treatment on order to prevent being branded as gay.

Reports revealed that 11 out of the 21 had been bailed by their family and friends, while 10 were left in detention. INCRESE however provided the fund for bail for the remaining 10 detainees and took them to a safe house.

The 21 claimed that the police further extorted money from each of them when they all returned to the police station on May 14, 2015 before they were allowed to leave.

“It is obvious that there is a need to create more public awareness and the need for victims to take up cases with solid support of the movement. Without this, cases like this will continue to occur with limited or no option for proper adjudication for justice”, the TIER spokesman said.
