15 political parties sponsored by PDP –APC

The All Progressives Congress says the 15 political parties and five presidential candidates that threatened to pull out of the March 28 and April 11 elections if the Independent National Electoral Commission insists on using card readers are sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party.
Image result for pdpThis is just as over 10 political parties have endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan as their presidential candidate.
The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement on Thursday that the 15 political parties were echoing everything the PDP demanded, including the deployment of soldiers for elections.
He said the PDP’s opposition to the use of card readers for the elections had shown the accuracy of the APC’s accusations that the ruling party was doing all in its powers to either prevent the election from holding or to rig it.
He said it was curious that after the APC had exposed the PDP’s plan at a press conference, the 15 political parties came out to push a PDP agenda.
He said, ‘’In an apparently-choreographed show, some 15 portfolio political parties called a press conference to also announce that they will oppose the use of the card reader, vowing to boycott the elections and use a legal process to prevent the use of the machine.
“These syndicated threats are the latest indications of the mortal fear in the corridors of power about the machine that has now become the nemesis of election riggers and manipulators worldwide.”
The APC spokesman said using Temporary Voter Cards instead of the Permanent Voter Cards would make the voting process porous.
He said it would also amount to a waste of funds as billions of naira had been spent on card readers and the PVCs.
Mohammed said the APC had information about a South-West governor that was already having nocturnal meetings with service chiefs on how to rig the elections.

PDP disown Fayose over Jega's removal

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday said Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State was not speaking for the party on the call for the sacking of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
Image result for jegaFayose had called for the sacking of Jega, adding that if President Goodluck Jonathan decided to remove him, heaven would not fall.
But the party said the governor was merely expressing his personal opinion and that his statement should not be construed to mean the position of the party on the issue.
The Deputy National Chairman of the Party, Prince Uche Sedondus, stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
He said, “We are not fighting Jega. The opinion expressed by the governor of Ekiti State on the INEC chairman remains his own. He’s not speaking for the party.”
He further denied that the PDP was pressuring the President to sack Jega, saying, “Never, nothing like that is even cooking. There is no plan to remove Jega. “He added that the party “has absolute confidence in INEC and its leadership.”
Secondus also boasted that the PDP would win the general elections comfortably, adding that the party would not bribe voters to return President Jonathan into office.
“We won’t bribe voters to return the President into office. As a matter of fact, we have never bribed voters before, during or after elections,” he added.
Secondus, who said the PDP was ready for the 2015 elections, said the party had decentralised its campaigns from wards to the polling units, stressing that claims that it was afraid of the use of Permanent Voter Cards and card readers were not true.
While responding to allegations that the PDP was jittery over the use of card readers, Secondus said, “Not at all. You know this is the first time that the country is going to try this technology.
“I think that this misinformation by the APC must be corrected. The PDP is not against card readers. The PDP believes that INEC should test it and it should be in perfect condition, so that we don’t run into problems.
“So that on that day we don’t have problems of it working in some areas and in other areas it won’t work. I mean these are human feelings across the nation, not just the PDP but the entire country.
“Since it is the first time we will adopt this technology it should be in perfect condition so that people will not have cause to complain. This is the position of the party and I want to make it clear to Nigerians that the PDP is not against the card reader but we urge INEC to test run them so that they will be in perfect condition on that day.”
He added that the collection rate of the PVCs by Nigerians, which he said, had reached more than 80 per cent, “is a welcome development.”

Falana takes over suit seeking Mbu’s removal

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday ordered the service of court papers on the Police Service Commission in Abuja in a suit seeking declaration that an Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, is unfit to remain a police officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Image result for joseph mbuThe ex parte application for leave of court to serve the PSC outside of jurisdiction was brought before Justice Ibrahim Buba by a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN).
Falana had on Thursday appeared in court and announced appearance as counsel representing the plaintiff, a lawyer, Mr. Tope Alabi, who filed the case.
Alabi is urging the court to compel the Inspector General of Police; the Police Service Commission and the Attorney General of the Federation to immediately declare Mbu’s office with the Force vacant over alleged abuse of power.
The plaintiff’s legal action against the AIG stemmed from a recent order reportedly given by Mbu to the police officers of the Ogun State Police Command to kill 20 civilians for any police officer killed during the general elections.
Alabi is contending that Mbu, having sworn to uphold the rule of law and abide by the Constitution, acted in contravention of Section 308 (1) (b) of the 1999 Constitution, when he gave such an order to his men.
According to the lawyer, such an utterance, which was widely reported in the national dailies was “capable of inciting mass killings, violence and anarchy,” in the country.
At the hearing of the case on Thursday, Falana, after announcing appearance, brought the ex parte application to the notice of the court.
He said, “My Lord, we have a motion for leave to serve the third respondent outside jurisdiction.”
The plaintiff also filed three other applications which have not been heard.
They are a motion for interim injunction restraining Mbu from giving any orders to officers under him during the general elections pending the hearing of the plaintiff’s motion for interlocutory injunction.
The motion for interlocutory injunction is seeking to restrain Mbu from giving any orders pending the hearing of the substantive suit.
The plaintiff also has a pending application seeking to abridge the time within which the suit will be heard and determined in view of its urgency.

Nigeria needs ‘do tanks’ not think tanks –Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday said Nigeria’s   peculiar   challenges   required leaders with requisite experience to tackle them.
He told guests inside the auditorium of his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, during the celebration of his 78th birthday and 2015 annual summit, that there were too many ‘think-tanks’ in the country instead of ‘do-tanks.’
Image result for obasanjoThe former President, who looked resplendent in a white flowing agbada,   therefore prayed to “ God to give us leaders that occasion like this deserves.”
He said that West African countries and Britain were worried about developments in Nigeria.
Reiterating his commitment to the country, Obasanjo said each time he travelled to these countries, he was usually inundated with enquiries about Nigeria’s security, political and socio-economic challenges.
According to him, people in those countries   always warn that any turmoil in Nigeria may have dire consequences on its West African neighbours and even Brittain.
He said, “We are about 180 million now, our brothers and sisters in West Africa are worried and when they talk to me and I ask why they were worried, they always reply that, ‘if half a million Nigerians go to Republic of Benin, we will overwhelm them.
“If two million (Nigerians) go to Ghana… Even Britain is worried, they are worried. They said their problem is that if one million Nigerians go to Britain, they said in 10 years, there will be 10 million Nigerians in Britain and they will rather keep us here.”
He said with enormous resources the nation was blessed with, no Nigerian child should lack access to education, food and employment.
Obasanjo lamented that the mismanagement of the nation’s resources had landed the country in the current mess.
He said, “My concern is that we have too many think tanks, we need more of do tanks. The point is, we can do and we have no reason why we can’t do and we have also seen that one individual can make a difference.
“There is no reason why any Nigerian child, at this point in time should not have a basic education, food and nutrition. Not only Nigerian child, no Nigerian should go to bed without food.
“We have the resources to achieve all that, that we are not achieving it does not mean we don’t have the resources. It is because we haven’t managed our resources well.
“Employment, if all other things are right, there should be no reason for any Nigerian who wants to be employed not to have the opportunity for employment.”
He noted that if the unemployment malaise persisted for the next 15 years, “and if all those things that all these young ones are expecting are not there, in 15 years time, they will be be good recruits for Boko Haram or its equivalent.”
Delivering a paper titled: Imperatives of a National Security Framework for Development and Progress of Nigeria,” a former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Martin Luther Agwai, condemned the involvement of the military in politics.
He warned that should the military abandon its primary responsibility and engage in politics, the country might be doomed for it.
Agwai called for transformation in the nation’s military system, stressing that the forces trained and equipped to defend the country had suddenly found themselves in a strange terrain.
He said, “The military has to be transformed and this becomes necessary from the point of recruitment, training and assuming leadership role. Our forces that are trained and equipped to defend us are now in a strange field.
“We must have security sector reform because everyone that has anything to do with security must be re-branded for professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness.
“The military has nothing to do with politics and if we allow it, we will run into problems.”
Agwai, who expressed fear at the emergence of   ‘private armies’ in the country, said this had led to rivalry and created religious division.
He expressed disappointment at the practice of democratic rule so far, which he said, had created few affluent citizens in the midst of suffocating poverty.
“When you have a scenario like this, there will be insecurity,” he added.
He called on the government to diversify the economy and ensure that “no Nigerian child goes to bed without food in his belly. Farmers should have enough food to eat and sell.”
Agwai, who is the current chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, noted that religious bodies which should serve as   checks on corruption had become “facilitators of corruption.”
The chairman of the ceremony, Prof.Akin Mabogunje, stressed the need for inter-dependency of all security agencies   in tackling the security challenges in the country.
Mabogunje, who is the Chairman, Governing Board, Centre for Human Security, OOPL, identified intelligence gathering as key to addressing the issue of insecurity.
Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, described the host as “a great Nigerian and a rare species.”
He said Obasanjo had played a significant role in the development of the nation and remained the only Nigerian Head of State to hand over power to a civilian administration and also ensured a civilian to civilian transition.
He said,”As far as he is concerned, issues concerning Nigeria are far beyond party affiliation. There is no way we talk about Nigeria that we will not talk about Obasanjo.”
The former governor of Lagos State and a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, described Obasanjo   as a “nationalist, teacher, disciplinarian and a tutor in dignity and boldness.”
He said though they have had differences in the past, he noted that Obasanjo was a man of value and wisdom.
He said, “Obasanjo is an open book, you read a line, you pick a paragraph, you learn, you comply, if you drink from that fountain of wisdom, you will see value in it, he is very, very committed to the Nigerian nation.”
The chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, described Obasanjo as “an icon, a father, a non- partisan person, and the very first in the history of this nation.”
Among dignitaries at the event were former governors of Ekiti and Osun states – Segun Oni and Olagunsoye Oyinlola , the Osile of Oke-Ona Egba, Dr. Adedapo Tejuoso, and   the co-chairman, OOPL Board of Trustees, Ambassador Carl Masters.

Memorise: Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; - Acts 3:19

Read: (Isaiah 55:6-7 KJV)

6.Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

7.Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto
the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Bible in one year: Ezekiel 34:11-36:15, Revelation 14:14-15:8

MESSAGE:

After God has done something spectacular in your life, there is a need to give quality thanks to Him. You need to appreciate God for His faithfulness and blessings over your life, home and career, as well as for the peace of mind that money cannot buy. Never allow anything to limit your thanksgiving, and always colour your thanksgiving with praise and testimonies. After surviving the flood, Noah and his household offered quality thanks to God for preserving them in the midst of the destruction that came upon the earth. Some years ago, one of my daughters praised God like never before during a New Year cross-over service. Many were curious to know the reason for her uncommon thanksgiving and praise. In response, she said she was thanking God for preserving her life to see the New Year despite all that had happened to her in the previous year. In the previous year, she lost her job, lost her car to robbers and lost her flat to a fire incident. But when there is life, there is hope. There is a user of this devotional, every good thing you have lost before now will be restored in Jesus’ Name.

Many people only thank God when things are going well, but for some, thanksgiving has become their lifestyle irrespective of what is happening around them. Do you remember to thank God at those times when you have enjoyed uncommon grace to do the right thing, when ordinarily the devil would have wanted you to do otherwise? It is one thing to know how to do the right thing, and it is another thing to receive the grace to do it.

The Lord wants everything to change for your good. He wants you to experience the times of refreshing. Change can be positive or negative. If a man gets promoted in the office to an enviable position, it is a change. This change attracts other changes; for example, the one who has been receiving orders becomes the one issuing them. The one who has been driving himself becomes the one with an official driver. This year, the Lord will surprise you and surprise your enemies by what He will do in your life. This is why you cannot afford to be unserious with God. While things change for good for His children, for those who are not on the Lord’s side, the change will not be positive. When the Lord set the children of Israelfree from the hands of their slave masters, it was a change to freedom, but on the side of the Egyptians, it was the beginning of destruction and self-service. I am speaking to the life of someone: a change is coming to you now. It shall be a change for good that will affect every area of your life and bring uncommon blessings to your life, family, ministry, business and career.

Key Point: Change happens to those who are prepared to handle it.

AIT tells Tinubu to hug the closest transformer

The demands, which Mike Ozekhome’s chambers describe as laughable, include the stoppage of further transmission of the alleged defamatory documentary, failure which daar communications will be made to pay twenty billion Naira representing damages. In its reaction, Mike Ozekhome’s chambers on behalf on behalf of Daaar communications declares that AIT, in transmitting the documentary was only carrying out its constitutional responsibility to uphold the fundamental objectives of the constitution. It states further that the documentary merely stated that Bola Tinubu generally breached various portions of the Nigerian constitution. Daar communications plc is therefore demanding a complete withdrawal of the letter under reference, which must be given wide publicity as that accorded the letter from the chambers of Tunji Abayomi. The media company demands an apology to be published in at least four leading national newspapers and four television stations, which must include NTA, Channels and AIT.
